If you’re looking for the best face wash or the best facial cleanser, remember that a face wash and a cleanser are the same thing. There’s no difference. I’m sure by now, every man is familiar with using these to clean their skin, rather than traditional soaps. Soaps do more harm than good, leaving your skin dry and feeling tight. However, more than often, men aren’t buying the best product for their skin type and this can cause some problems. Actually, this is quite understandable as men can be overwhelmed with the sheer number of products available. Men being men, we don’t want to be hanging around a store all afternoon, reading over everything on the shelf and trying to figure out whether it’s the right one for us. What we usually do is have a quick look, select something without any meaningful consideration and then head straight to the till. But this is where we’re going wrong as men. There isn’t a standard or collective approach to cleaning your skin. Men only need to use what’s good for their skin, individually.
It’s important that you pick the right cleansing product for your skin, understanding they’re made for different types of skin. For example, some offer more exfoliation than others. Some are made for sensitive skin only. Not choosing the best face wash for your skin can lead to skin problems.
A good face wash is the first step to combat any skin ailments you may have or, if you’re lucky enough not to have any skin niggles, a good quality product will keep your skin looking great.
Companies have spent billions of dollars researching products for men that will work to clean skin, tackle skin ailments and keep problem skin under control. When buying them, it’s important that men don’t scrimp and scrape on price. Cheap and non-branded products can lead to problems as their ingredients don’t cut it.
Best for Oily Skin
If you have oily skin, you’ll need to use an effective face wash to remove oil, dirt and grime. Failure to do this may result in breakouts of spots or even acne in more serious cases. If you suffer from oily skin, it’s a good idea that you wash your face twice a day at least with a product that isn’t too harsh (as this can accelerate oil production). The best facial cleanser for oily skin will contain Salicylic Acid to help remove excess oils without damaging your skin. See How To Treat And Combat Oily Skin For Men

Best for Dry Skin
Unlike oily skin, dry skin requires cleansers to retain the moisture in the skin. So, for dryer skin, you’ll want to avoid a wash with alcohol, perfume and salicylic acid ingredients (which should only be used for oily skin types). If you don’t do this, you risk your skin drying out even further which will increase the risk of eczema, inflammation and premature ageing. A good facial cleanser should contain mainly natural ingredients such as Aloe Vera and Chamomile which clean the face whilst locking in the natural oils of your skin. Depending on your skin type, we recommend you wash your face at the night and then wash your face with fresh water only in the morning.

Best for Sensitive Skin.
If you have sensitive skin, you’ll be familiar with avoiding most men’s grooming products you see on the shelves and only choosing from a select few products that are clearly marked for sensitive skin. Sensitive skin that’s not taken care of can lead to outbreaks of red flare ups, itching, swelling and stinging – and some of the blame can be assigned to using the wrong product to clean the face. Oftentimes, men with sensitive skin avoid washing their face out of fear of any skin reactions, even by-passing products specifically made for sensitive skin. Avoidance of all cleansing products isn’t recommended – sensitive skin still needs to be clean. Those with sensitive skin should lean towards gentle ingredients such as ‘fragrance free‘, ‘hypoallergenic‘ or ‘natural ingredients‘. Definitely stay away from anything perfumed.

Best for Combination Skin.
If you’re one of the unlucky ones that has combination skin, finding the right way to treat it can be difficult. Men with combination skin often have an oily T-zone area (across the forehead, running down the nose and ending at the chin) and then also have to contend with other parts of the face feeling dry and tight. Finding a way to hydrate the skin but also to remove excess oil may seem like an impossible task. Many brands accommodate oily or dry skin…not both. An ideal mixture for combination skin is the perfect balance of Glycolic Acid to remove excess oil, with a natural ingredient such as Aloe vera to soothe and hydrate any dry areas.
